Financial Literacy Series

It is very hard to ignore what is happening in our economy today.  Everything from President Obama's Stimulus Package, to high unemployment, to both the student loan and home mortgage loan crisis.  In an effort to help MC students keep on top of their own credit issues and become more aware of financial aid policies and information we have put together a Financial Literacy and Student Aid Education Opportunities Series.

I want to take this opportunity to personally ask you to attend this series, which will cover the following:

·     Financial Literacy

·     Basic Financial Aid at Maryville College

·       The Tennessee HOPE Lottery Scholarship

·       The Tennessee Student Assistance Award

·     Finding Outside Scholarship opportunities

·     Student Loans - Managing Debt Load, Repayment and the Consequences of Default.

I encourage you to attend all of the series presentations especially the Financial Literacy sessions and any session that pertains to an award you are receiving.  We will also be rolling out a section on Financial Literacy to the MC Financial Aid website please look for it in early spring.

To access the online system, enter your MC Online Financial Aid Student ID and your MC Online Financial Aid System PIN.  If you have not received your PIN, you can request it be sent to your email address.  This can be done from the log in box in the upper right corner. Keep you ID and PIN in a safe place as you will need these to access the MC Online Financial Aid System in the future.

You must have a financial aid record established at Maryville College for 2010-2011 in order for you to use this system.  This means that you must be a new student who has been accepted for admissions or a returning student who has pre-registered for Fall 2010 classes.  You will also need to have completed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  If you have not begun the financial aid application process, you can get started by completing your Free Application for Federal Student Aid on line.  If you wish to have your FAFSA waived and are not interested in any need-based federal, state or institutional grants or loans, please call (865)981-8100 to have your FAFSA waived.

** The Tennessee Educational Lottery Scholarship Program requires all students to complete the FAFSA annually to receive their HOPE Scholarship.
